Soybean Innovation Lab’s (SIL) Multi-Crop Thresher, supported by MEDA, is in use by women-led cooperatives in northern Ghana. Cooperative members report receiving better prices for their crops when they are processed using a mechanized thresher and report an increase in cash on-hand and access to credit as a result of the collective ownership model they utilize. Members indicate that they feel more ‘important’ and that women’s views are respected because men recognize that they control a valuable asset – a mechanized thresher.
Through support from the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss (ADMI), SIL researchers evaluated the success of women-led cooperative ownership models among 15 thresher enterprises in northern Ghana. Researchers observed reductions in women and child labor and increases in agricultural production, food security, and empowerment among those surveyed. Attend the webinar to learn more about the women-led cooperative ownership models for the SIL Multi-Crop Thresher, get answers to your questions, and learn how to source a thresher for your needs from the thresher fabrication network operating across 9 African countries.
